Enhanced Cleanliness Procedures - the Clean Thumb Club™
What are you doing to keep your members and team members safe?
Your health and safety is our #1 priority, and we're committed to keeping our clubs clean and safe as we know working out is essential for your physical and mental well-being. As a leader in the fitness industry, we’ve always had extremely high cleanliness and sanitization standards in place. Our employees conduct regular and thorough cleaning of all equipment, surfaces, and areas of the club and regularly complete deep cleanings. Although we cannot eliminate all risks associated with COVID-19, we've taken several additional steps to strengthen our existing cleanliness policies and procedures to help keep you and our employees safe.
Below is what you can expect when you visit your local club:
Planet Fitness employees, members and guests should adhere to individual state and local mask requirements.
Increased, thorough cleaning will be conducted using disinfectant on the EPA list effective against COVID-19. This includes walk arounds by our employees to continually clean and sanitize high-touch areas.
Increased sanitization stations will be available throughout the gym floor for member use.
Touchless check-in is available via the free Planet Fitness App featuring COVID-19 wellness questions. Simply download the app in advance and scan in at the front desk. In addition to a touch-less check-in experience, our app also puts the gym in your pocket with over 500 workouts at your fingertips.
The Crowd Meter, a feature on the Planet Fitness App, that allows members to check club capacity in real-time before leaving the house.
Additional information about operating hours or other local guidelines that may apply can be found on your club page.
Finally, be sure to also checkout this VIDEO on how we are keeping our members and employees healthy and safe.
What type of disinfectant do you use?
Our employees will be conducting increased, thorough cleanings throughout all areas of the club using disinfectant on the EPA list effective against COVID-19.
Do you have hand sanitizer available for member use?
Yes, we do! You will find increased sanitization stations throughout the gym, fully stocked with disinfectant spray and hand sanitizer. We want to keep our PF community strong and healthy!
How will I know if my club has capacity restrictions or modified hours?
Check out your local club page on our Club Finder to find out if your club has reopened and if your club has a change in hours or capacity limitations.
What can members do to stay safe?
Here’s how you can be “Cleansiderate” and do your part to help keep our Planet community healthy:
The CDC recommends you wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water before using equipment
Remember to disinfect equipment before and after use
Maintain physical distance between members and employees
Please stay home if you're not feeling well. Don’t worry, we’ll be here for you when you feel better!
How are you keeping your employees safe?
We couldn’t do it without our awesome PF employees, and their health and safety is our priority. We are providing all employees with PPE such as masks and gloves. They have conducted extensive training on our enhanced cleanliness and sanitization policies and procedures upon returning to work.
Are you still offering PE@PF classes?
We know you love working out with your PF trainer! To enable physical distancing and keep our employees and members safe, PE@PF may be temporarily modified based on local guidelines and restrictions. You can sign up for a session on the Planet Fitness App. Check your local club for more details.
Why aren't you having Pizza Mondays/Bagel Tuesdays anymore?
Out of an abundance of caution, we have temporarily suspended our Pizza Monday and Bagel Tuesday events. Our top priority is your health and safety, and temporarily suspending these events helps us to maintain appropriate physical distance between members and employees, and lessen the amount of touch points between people, food and other surfaces. We will continue to evaluate the situation as it evolves and will be sure to keep you up to date with any future changes to our offerings.

If I choose to wear a mask while working out, do you have any information about how to successfully work out with a mask?
We know that wearing a mask while working out may be new for some of our members. Here are a few tips from our awesome PF trainer Teddy Savage! You can also check out a video from him.
Teddy’s tips:
Choose a mask that works for you. Don’t get caught up in the “one size fits all” thought process when choosing your mask.
Breathe to the beat of your own drum. Hum a little tune in your head to control your cadence of breath.
Infuse active rest in lieu of strict cardio. It may be slightly more challenging to do steady state cardio. So instead, do a few seconds of active rest when exercising. For example, if you’re on the treadmill jogging on an incline, decrease the incline or slow to a fast walk to catch your breath. Then, you can speed back up again.
Plan for breaks into your routine. Tactfully place breaks into your routine as you are getting used to working out with a mask.
Use shorter time intervals for your work to rest ratio. Instead of doing one 60 second time interval, break it up into two 30 second or three 20 second intervals.
Mask Best Practices
Wear your Mask Correctly
Wash your hands before putting it on
Put it over your nose and mouth and secure it under your chin
Try to fit it snugly against the sides of your face
Make sure you can breathe easily
